Soccer referees needed for youth games in fall season

With over 100,000 youth soccer players in the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) and over 3,000 referees and assistant referees, there is still a need for volunteers at games.

Referee positions can be found in both fall and spring seasons, but as the spring season has come to a close, Eastern New York hopes to increase the number of referees in time for the fall season.

“There are many reasons to become a referee and/or assistant referee, from staying involved with the game, getting exercise, meeting new people, earning money, etc. Plus, you are your own boss and decide when you are available to ref. The reasons for reffing are as diverse as the people who make up our referee ranks, men and women, plus teenage boys and girls,” said the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association in a statement.

The nonprofit Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) encompasses Montauk Point, Long Island to the Canadian border.

Members are affiliated with 10 leagues throughout the association, which covers the entire State of New York east of Route 81.

ENYYSA’s mission is to “promote and enhance the game of soccer for children and teenagers between the ages of 5 and 19 years old, and to encourage the healthy development of youth players, coaches, referees and administrators. All levels of soccer are offered—from intramural, travel team and premier players as well as children with special needs. No child who wants to play soccer is turned away.”

NYYSA is a member of the United States Soccer Federation and U.S. Youth Soccer.
