Amvets Post 76 hosts eighth annual fishing fundraiser

Posted

Amvets Post 76 in Bay Shore held their eighth annual fishing trip fundraiser on Saturday, Aug. 10. A group of 60 took off on the Bay Princess at Captree State Park for a day of sunshine, catching lots of little fluke, sharks, sea bass, blowfish and sea robins.

“Our eighth annual Amvets Post 76 fishing trip was a huge success. All our veterans, families, and friends had a fantastic time on the Bay Princess out of Captree on Aug. 10,” shared commander Rich Butera. “We served plenty of heroes and beverages and followed that with a catered dinner back at the post.”

The fishing trip was open to all, not just Amvets members. For the cost of the $75-per-person ticket, attendees indulged in sandwiches, beer, water, soda, and hot food afterwards at the post. Funds from the event will help Post 76 serve local veterans and the community.

Amvets (American Veterans) is the nation’s most inclusive congressionally chartered veterans’ service organization, representing the interests of 20 million veterans. Amvets organizations aim to improve the quality of life for them, their families, and their community through leadership, advocacy, and services. Amvets Post 76 hosts the Bay Shore-Brightwaters Memorial Day parade and an annual Veterans Day ceremony.

Anyone is welcome to visit the Post at 44 West Main Street in Bay Shore.

“The veterans have a wonderful place to go, and when we all get together, we all have a wonderful time,” said Charlene Lanigan, president of the Ladies Auxiliary of Amvets Post 76.

The post is open daily at 3 p.m., and a food menu is available from Thursday through Saturday, from 5 to 10 p.m.
