Man found injured on side of the road dies

Suffolk County Police Major Case Unit detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding an incident during which a man was found unconscious on the road in Moriches.

Seventh Precinct officers responded to Montauk Highway, near Louis Avenue, at approximately 4:30 a.m. after a 911 caller reported an unconscious man lying on the road on Aug. 5

The man, John Ballard, 30, of Mastic, was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue for treatment of serious injuries.

Ballard, who was found unconscious in the roadway on Montauk Highway, died of his injuries on August 7.

An investigation by Major Case Unit detectives determined Ballard was operating an electric skateboard when he fell causing his injuries.
