Local yoga instructor continues service project to restore Center Moriches’ Nationally Recognized Masury Estate  

The Masury Estate, located in Center Moriches, is a national historic site built in 1894 by John Masury, a local inventor and successful paint manufacturer. Today, the estate which features a beautiful ballroom is owned and maintained by the not-for-profit Holiday Beach Property Owners Association.    

Local yoga instructor and creator of Peaceful Scorpion Wellness, Dani DeLongis, became fascinated with the estate and its historic ballroom over 15 years ago. When she learned about the restoration of the historic ballroom and other projects needed, she offered to bring weekly yoga classes to the property to raise funds. Now, in its fourth year, summer yoga classes on Holiday Beach will be offered June-August. Classes transition to inside the beautiful ballroom September-May. 

“It is important to give back to my community and preserve local history. I offered to do classes as a yoga service project and these classes have helped to gather the community. The students are doing something great for their body, mind and spirit while giving back. I am donating my time and the local community is getting to practice yoga in two lovely settings. Together we are supporting this historic property and important restoration project. In May we celebrated our three-year anniversary. Everyone loves the classes, and we are looking forward to another great summer on the beach,” said Dani DeLongis. 

To date, DeLongis’ classes have raised more than $8,000 to support renovations, working within the beautiful historic details. 40 percent of proceeds are donated. 

The Masury Estate Ballroom, located at Holiday Beach in Center Moriches, is a National, New York State and Town of Brookhaven historic site. The 1.5-acre estate dates back to 1898 when the land was purchased by John Masury.  

Beach Yoga classes will be on Wednesdays July 10, 17 and 24 and August 7 and 14 and start at 6 pm. Each class is $20. For more information, please visit https://peacefulscorpionwellness.com/yoga-schedule/
