Councilman Neil Foley to serve as grand marshal

Brookhaven Town councilman Neil Foley will be the grand marshal for this year’s Patchogue Lions Club July 4th parade. The parade steps off at 10:30 a.m. at West Avenue and East Main Street and heads east along East Main Street to Rider Avenue. This year’s theme is “America, Land That I Love.” Four to five bands and about six floats are expected and 46 groups of marchers and vehicles are scheduled to participate, said Peter Feehan of the Patchogue Lions Club, which is one of the largest chapters in Suffolk County. The parade, which is about one hour long, has been held for more than 60 years and has become a Patchogue tradition. The parade reviewing stand will be at Capital One Plaza, where recording artist Amber Ferrari will sing the national anthem. Before the parade steps off, The Atlantic Wind Symphony will play patriotic tunes in front of the Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts. Trophies will be handed out to the best floats in a number of categories, including most original, most beautiful and most patriotic. Feehan said Foley, who was elected to the town council in 2014, was a natural choice as grand marshal. “Yes, he’s a politician, but he’s very community-oriented,” Feehan said. “He was community-oriented before he became a councilman. It makes sense to honor a person like that.” Foley served on the Brookhaven Town Zoning Board before being elected to the town council in 2014. He has also been active in the Bayport-Blue Point Little League and the Patchogue-Medford Youth Organization.
