The Witches Invade Brightwaters

Posted

The Witches are back! Out for their 8th annual excursion in the Brightwaters area, witches and warlocks gathered bright and early once again for the Witch’s Paddle.

Starting at 8 a.m. sharp in Gilbert Park, witches traded their broomsticks for paddle boards before they kicked off. The coven of witches and warlocks then travelled along the canal for their aquatic voyage.

Many came dressed in pointy hats and cloaks of all colors and sizes while others adorned a pumpkin head. Regardless of whether one was a witch or a pumpkin, it’s clear residents tapped into their creative side for their outfits.

With audiences gathering to watch the paddlers from the shore, the community has made it a tradition to come together to cheer on the witches and join the fun, from kids to adults.

The South Shore Mermaids originally got the paddle started thanks to help from the local community, such as the Bay Shore Yacht Club. Over the years, the paddle has grown in numbers as more folks learned about the event. Now, the Witch’s Paddle has become a cornerstone of the Halloween season for Brightwaters and Bay Shore.

As a free event, everyone was able to get involved. No matter if you were on the water or watching from nearby Gilbert Park or the canal, the clear enthusiasm shared by residents made the day feel extra magical.
