Brookhaven Town recently held an open house unveiling the plans for the Terrell River Fish Passage, located at Kalers Pond Park in Center Moriches, on Nov. 12.
The town’s design team from LKMA, Ryan Cusack and Keith Masseri, invited members of the community to join them for a presentation of the project’s goals and design concepts with opportunity for input and questions.
According to the town, the community has suffered flooding and issues in the area surrounding the river.
“The creation of a fish passage that will connect Terrell River and Kalers Pond is beneficial to the environment, local wildlife and residents,” said town councilwoman Karen Dunne Kesnig. “This passage will enable fish to swim upriver to spawn, which will help to improve the ecological health of the river, while allowing floodwater to move quickly downriver, which reduces flooding to area residents. We are grateful to our partners in New York State government for recognizing the importance of this project.”
