Ten-mile run for local charities

The Moriches Field Brewing Company owner Rich Flynn will host the third annual a 10-mile Run To Moriches Field, in Center Moriches, on Jan.16, 2027, to benefit several local charities.

“A few years ago, I was approached by the Saville Running Company about hosting a 10-mile run with a goal of being able to give back to local causes. I said, ‘Yes, we can help, and I know the perfect local charities,’” Flynn said.

The third annual event will benefit Camp PaQuaTuck and Helping Makes You Happy.

Camp PaQuaTuck is dedicated to the benefit of special-needs individuals of Long Island. Each year, they invite thousands of campers to enjoy a session of summer fun at their 37-acre site on the shores of Kaler’s Pond in Center Moriches.

Helping Makes You Happy aims to demonstrate how every human being can make a difference through volunteering. They do so many different things to support the local community, it is impossible to list.

“It’s everything from feeding families in need, providing school supplies, toys for Christmas, providing scholarships and more,” Flynn said. “This year, I think the run is needed more than ever. It is not surprising that as living expenses go up, charities often feel the pinch.”

The run is a total of 10 miles, winding through the scenic Moriches, passing by the water, through Main Street and more.  They estimate over 600 people will participate.

“There is an army of volunteers in addition to all the runners. People come out of their houses to cheer on family, friends, and complete strangers who are participating,” he said.

Runners eventually make their way back to Moriches Field Brewery for an after-party which includes beer, food, and live music under heated tents. Parking is located at Camp PaQuaTuck, with shuttle buses that run back and forth from the brewery to the camp.

“From the bottom of my heart, I’ll thank everyone in advance for supporting local events like this that give back to our local organizations,” he added. “These events always have knock-on effects—everything from helping the charities, to using local businesses to source food, entertainment, equipment and more, to simply bringing people into town to see what a wonderful place this is.
