The Long Island Game Farm will be hosting Wonder of Wings Day to unveil the newly installed Motus Wildlife Tracking Tower.

The event will be held on Saturday, May 2, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the farm, located at 485 Chapman Boulevard in Manorville.

The day, according to Melinda Novak, president of Long Island Game Farm Wildlife Park, will include a celebration of birds through presentations, performances, and interactive activities.

“Having a Motus Tower at the Long Island Game Farm demonstrates our long-term commitment to wildlife conservation. We are so proud!” said Novak.

In coordination with the new device, the farm will be kicking off their 56th year. The tower is an international network tracking migration patterns of birds and flying mammals.

The tool, according to Tricia Snyder of the Foundation for Wildlife Sustainability, provides invaluable data and enabling researchers to gain insight into their migration patterns and habitat usage across Long Island and beyond.

“I think it is terrific that the Long Island Game Farm in Manorville, N.Y., is part of an important worldwide conservation effort. We love the educational possibilities that this opens up,” said Snyder.

Guests will be able to learn about local birds, their sounds and habitats, as well as meet birds of prey, including hawks, owls, and falcons. There will also be activities for all ages including crafts, trail-building activities and interpretive dance.

Master of ceremonies will be Tony Valderrama, an internationally recognized environmental artist, director of the Wilderness Traveling Museum, founder of the Artist’s Nest, and educator.

Chris Regan, Motus technician; Aidan Perkins, wildlife biologist; Greg Drossel, Long Island Game Farm general manager and environmentalist; and Bobby Horvath, licensed wildlife rehabilitator, will also be giving presentations and tours.

The day will include discounted admission for the day is $15/person and free for under 2 years.
