Feeding the Families

Posted

June is the month we begin preparing in earnest for feeding the families referred to us by schools and social workers.

This is our ninth year of collecting, purchasing, packing, and delivering nonperishable breakfast and lunch foods (with the exception of July 4th and Labor Day when we include hot dogs and hamburgers) to anywhere between 30 to 39 families weekly beginning in July.

Look for our table at the Moriches Chamber of Commerce’s Spring Festival on June 9, where we will be selling raffles for our Father’s Day raffle, which helps to fund feeding the families.

You will also be able to view information about our upcoming events, and sign up to volunteer if you wish. June is also scholarship month, so we will be very busy the first two weeks of June visiting area high schools and awarding our scholarships to deserving high school seniors.

On June 14, mom and I have been invited to speak about life when you’re differently abled at an orientation for incoming camp counselors at Camp Paquatuck, and we are really looking forward to it!

We will also be attending the ParentChild+ graduation ceremony on June 22. We love this program, coordinated by local resident Catherine Gutierrez, and are happy once again to be able to provide graduation backpacks and hand them out to the little students.

Speaking of graduation, we’d like to wish all the seniors a happy prom—stay safe and enjoy—and happy graduation to all the students and their families!
