The superintendent of schools for the Center Moriches Union Free School District is looking forward to welcoming about 1,340 K-12 students on Wednesday, Sept. 2.
“I am most looking forward to welcoming students and staff back into our buildings and seeing their reactions to all the summer facility improvements,” he said.
After investing time and resources to the upkeep and improvement of the facilities, he said, the district is shifting their focus towards instructional programs, staff growth, and developing academic partnerships with families.
“All of which will foster success for our students across many pathways,” he said.
New this year at Clayton Huey Elementary School is the continuing implementation of Magnetic Literacy and the i-Ready diagnostic tool to ensure that students receive research-based instruction and intervention services.
When asked for his advice for parents of kindergartners or graduating seniors, he said:
“Whether this is the beginning of a child’s educational experience or the culmination of their time in public education, enjoy every moment—don’t take anything for granted, and try to be a part of the experience and a consistent support to your children. Although we do what we can to nurture and support our students, nothing replaces the warmth and encouragement of parents and/or guardians.”
Eastport-South Manor will be starting their school year a day earlier on Tuesday, Sept. 1.
