Scenes from this year’s Veterans Day parade

Posted

The Manorville-Moriches community turned out on Sunday, Nov. 5, for the fifth annual Veterans Day parade.

Sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce of the Moriches and chaired by Miriam Gillies, the event drew participants from local fire departments, the Coast Guard, VFW Chapter 414 color guard, members of the 106th Rescue Wing and Women Veterans, as well as Center Moriches High School marching band, vintage auto enthusiasts, scouts and elected officials, who marched down Main Street in East Moriches to Soldiers and Sailors Park, all led by a very proud grand marshal.

Grand marshal Charles Wohr, nominated by American Legion Post 1545, saw service in the Air Force during the Cold War, including missions to South Korea, Libya, and the South Pacific atolls, where nuclear tests were conducted.  He later worked in the defense industry and, in retirement, continued to serve as a volunteer with the Disabled American Veterans.
