Long Island Game Farm to reopen for the season

Posted

The Long Island Game Farm operators are currently working on putting their official schedule together, but have announced a reopening in March on weekends and for spring break on March 28, 29, 30. They will be closed for Easter. The farm will also open officially in April, Thursday through Sunday and spring recess, April 22 through 26. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Throughout the winter, the farm was open by appointment only, and as of last month they were open by reservation, weather dependent. Advance reservations include VIP tours, zookeeper tours, and pony experiences.

This year, according to owner Melinda Novack, the Foundation for Wildlife Sustainability will present culture, education, and wellness programs throughout the year.

Last year, the farm welcomed a troop of three squirrel monkeys. However, because they like the warmer weather, they won’t be on display until May. Events will also be announced for April.

The Long Island Game Farm has been rehabilitating and rehoming exotic animals for over 50 years. As the largest combined children’s zoo and wildlife park on Long Island, The Long Island Game Farm offers a natural environment to learn about wildlife and animals through education and entertainment.

The game farm features hundreds of animals including wallabies, bison, Barbados sheep, peacocks, and the only lemurs born and bred on Long Island. Their animal collections include both exotic and indigenous breeds, with various breeds of buffalo, parrots, zebra, camels, emus, tortoises, and more.

The farm has rescued and rehabilitated or re-homed Sicilian miniature donkeys, alpacas, African Sulcatta tortoises, peacocks, rabbits, goats, sheep, alligators, and Gomez, a sulfer-crested cockatoo, and Nala, an African Serval cat.

The Long Island Game Farm is located at 489 Chapman Boulevard, Manorville, N.Y. For further information, please contact info@longislandgamefarm.com or call 631-878-6670.
