KEITH'S CORNER

Keith's Corner: Thanksgiving

Posted

We thought November might be a slow month at Helping Makes U Happy, but happily, that's not the case!  On Nov. 3 we'll be visiting Christ Lutheran Church in East Moriches, where, in honor of Veterans Day, we connected their Sunday School group with another great charity, Paws of War, who trains and places shelter dogs to provide independence to veterans. We are all coming together to give Paws of War some donations for their awesome organization.  On Nov. 7, we'll be heading over to Suffolk Federal Credit Union's main office in Medford to pick up all the food they collected at their 10-branch food drive for Helping Makes U Happy!  This food will be used to benefit many local families and pantries and we are so very grateful for the support of the credit union. We were very excited to learn that Mrs. Waller's fifth-grade class at Our Lady Queen of Apostles has chosen Helping Makes U Happy as the organization they'd like to help and work with throughout the school year!  We'll be working on some projects with them in the very near future. Our annual coat drive, and Hoodies for the Homeless, is in full swing now. If you have gently used coats or hooded sweatshirts you no longer need, you can drop them at Carlos Pizza in Manorville or The North Face Outlet Store at Tanger in Riverhead, both of whom have generously offered to be collection locations for us. We also collect hats, scarves, and gloves at this time of year and you can reach us at 631-848-9008 or by emailing helpingmakesuhappy@gmail.com to donate. Please do not drop any of the above in our clothing bin on Neville Street. We'll be supporting our friends at Stepping Stone Support at their Family Volunteer Day, Nov. 24 from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Long Island Aquarium.  This is another great organization that helps families affected by cancer, and their volunteer day is a fun and easy way to do some volunteer gift wrapping, card making, etc. which will help these families have a happier holiday season.  For more info go to SteppingStoneSupport.org.  Have a blessed and thanks-filled holiday, everyone!
